JOHN G. ROWLANDS
Originally from Llanrhystud, Ceredigion. Studied Art at Cardiff, Bristol and Trinity College, Carmarthen. Was an Art teacher in Buxton, Ystradgynlais and Aberystwyth until he became the Art Education Officer in the National Museum, Cardiff. Won the crown at Pontrhydfendigaid Eisteddfod, 1986. Published two books with Y Lolfa press- ANNWYL ARHOLWR and ABER.
Lives in Tremadog, Gwynedd.
His work has developed from landscape inspired semi-abstracts to purely abstract, highly-textural images. He has exhibited widely in Wales and his work has been shown in The Albany, Cardiff;
MOMA, Machynlleth; Festival Interceltique, L’Orient, Brittany; Waterfront Gallery, Milford Haven, Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea; Craft in the Bay, Cardiff and Rob Piercy Gallery, Porthmadog.
Paintings can be seen regularly in the Kooywood Gallery, Cardiff; Oriel Tonnau, Pwllheli and Castle Gallery, Cricieth.He is also a haiku poet. Some of his haiku are to be seen in Another Country/ Anthology of Haiku Poetry from Wales, Gomer Press 2011.
A collection of his haiku and senryu poetry ‘cymylau tywod/knots of sand’ was published by Alba Publishing, 2017.
